Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Set to Redefine the Premium SUV Game in India

Volkswagen is getting ready to make a bold statement in India’s premium SUV space with the arrival of the Tayron R-Line, a globally positioned seven-seater that will sit at the very top of the brand’s local SUV lineup. Designed to blend performance, luxury and everyday usability, the Tayron R-Line is being positioned as Volkswagen’s most premium SUV offering for Indian buyers yet.
At the heart of the Tayron R-Line lies a powerful 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine, tuned to produce around 201 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, ensuring quick shifts and smooth power delivery. What truly elevates the Tayron’s driving credentials is the inclusion of all-wheel drive as standard, giving it an edge in stability, traction and confidence across different driving conditions.
Beyond performance, the Tayron R-Line focuses heavily on space and practicality. With an overall length of 4,770 mm and a generous 2,789 mm wheelbase, the SUV offers a commanding road presence and ample room for passengers across all three rows. It is clearly designed to serve large families and long-distance travellers alike. Boot space is equally impressive, offering 345 litres with all seats in place and expanding to a massive 850 litres when the third row is folded, making it ideal for road trips and luggage-heavy journeys.
Volkswagen has also begun local assembly of the Tayron ahead of its official launch, a move that signals serious intent and could help the brand price the SUV competitively in its segment.

Visually, the Tayron R-Line carries Volkswagen’s modern SUV design language with a sporty twist. The R-Line treatment adds a more aggressive character, highlighted by sporty bumpers, R-Line badging and 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Clean body lines, a wide stance and sharp proportions give the SUV a premium yet purposeful look.
Lighting plays a big role in the Tayron’s visual appeal. The SUV comes equipped with HD Matrix LED headlamps featuring animated cornering functions, along with illuminated Volkswagen logos at both the front and rear. Variable LED tail-lamp signatures further enhance its premium feel, especially at night.
Safety is another area where the Tayron R-Line makes no compromises. The SUV has earned a five-star Euro NCAP rating, reinforcing its strong global safety credentials. Inside the cabin, the Tayron clearly announces its flagship status. The dashboard is dominated by a large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, complemented by a fully digital driver’s display that keeps essential information crisp and accessible.
Comfort and luxury features are plentiful. The Tayron R-Line offers three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof and 30-colour ambient lighting that allows occupants to personalise the cabin mood. The front seats feature ergoActive Plus technology, providing ventilation, memory settings and even a multi-point massage function, a feature rarely seen in this segment.
For entertainment, Volkswagen has equipped the Tayron with a Harman Kardon audio system with 11 speakers, ensuring a rich and immersive sound experience for all occupants.
Driver assistance and safety technology are equally comprehensive. The Tayron R-Line comes with Level 2 ADAS, nine airbags including a central airbag, a 360-degree camera, and Park Assist Plus, making it one of the most tech-loaded SUVs in its class. Adding to its appeal, the Tayron has also been awarded the Golden Steering Wheel 2025 for Best Family Car in Europe, underlining its all-round capabilities.
Once launched in India, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will go head-to-head with well-established rivals such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian, bringing a fresh European alternative to the premium three-row SUV space.
