Mahindra cars:
Mahindra & Mahindra has kicked off 2026 on a confident note, registering a strong 25% year-on-year growth in January and firmly securing the third spot on India’s passenger vehicle sales chart behind Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors. The homegrown automaker sold 63,510 cars during the first month of the year, a substantial jump of 12,851 units compared to the 50,659 units delivered in January 2025. This performance highlights Mahindra’s growing portfolio strength across SUVs, lifestyle vehicles, and its emerging electric lineup. While traditional models continue to anchor volumes, newer facelifts and electrified products are gradually shaping the brand’s growth trajectory. The company’s balanced mix of rugged SUVs and modern family-oriented vehicles has helped it maintain momentum in a highly competitive market where buyers are increasingly looking for feature-rich and aspirational products.

At the heart of Mahindra’s sales chart remains the Scorpio range, which includes both the Classic and the newer N version. Together, they contributed 15,542 units in January 2026. However, despite strong demand, this figure represents only a marginal 1% growth compared to the 15,442 units sold in January 2025, suggesting that the model has reached a stable demand plateau. Close behind was the Thar lineup, comprising the traditional 3-door and the newer Roxx 5-door version. The Thar family recorded 13,418 units, marking an impressive 78% year-on-year growth and highlighting the continued popularity of lifestyle off-roaders among Indian buyers. The Bolero also delivered a robust performance, selling 11,841 units and growing 36% compared to last year’s 8,682 units, reinforcing its reputation as a dependable rural and semi-urban workhorse. Meanwhile, the newly introduced XUV 7XO—essentially the facelifted successor to the XUV700—made a strong debut with 10,133 units in its first month. This is particularly noteworthy given that the outgoing XUV700 had sold 8,399 units in January 2025. With over 93,000 bookings already secured, the refreshed SUV appears set to become a key pillar in Mahindra’s 2026 growth story.

Other models delivered mixed results across the portfolio. The XUV 3XO posted 8,845 units, registering a modest 5% growth over last year’s 8,454 units, while its electric sibling, the XUV 400, saw a sharp 49% decline, dropping from 288 units to just 146 units. On the brighter side, Mahindra’s Born Electric range showed encouraging traction despite relatively low volumes. The XEV 9e clocked 1,945 units, up 71% from 1,137 units last year, and the BE 6 recorded 1,028 units, reflecting a 47% increase from 700 units. The newly introduced XEV 9S also entered the sales chart with 612 units in its debut month, indicating early interest in Mahindra’s next-generation EV lineup. Overall, January 2026 underscores Mahindra’s strategy of balancing its strong SUV heritage with a gradual push into electrification and refreshed product lines. If this momentum continues, the brand could further narrow the gap with the market leaders while strengthening its foothold across both traditional and electric segments.
