Toyota January 2026 sales

Toyota Cars:

Toyota Kirloskar Motor began 2026 on a steady note, registering total sales of 30,630 units in January and posting a healthy 17 per cent year-on-year growth over the 26,178 units sold in the same month last year. While the month-on-month performance saw a 10 per cent dip compared to December 2025’s 34,159 units, the broader outlook remains positive for the brand. The momentum was largely driven by sustained demand for Toyota’s premium SUVs and MPVs, categories that continue to define the company’s positioning in the Indian market. Despite fluctuations in monthly volumes, Toyota’s portfolio showed resilience across segments, with strong hybrid offerings and practical MPVs continuing to attract buyers seeking reliability and long-term ownership value.

Leading the charge was the Innova duo – the Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross – which together remained Toyota’s best-selling nameplate with 9,455 units sold in January 2026. However, this represented a mild 3 per cent year-on-year decline compared to 9,780 units sold a year earlier and a 5 per cent drop from December’s 9,901 units. The standout performer for the month was the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which emerged as one of Toyota’s biggest growth drivers. With 9,156 units sold, the midsize SUV posted a massive 85 per cent year-on-year growth over January 2025’s 4,941 units. It also recorded a strong 30 per cent month-on-month increase from December’s 7,022 units, thanks to continued demand for both its mild-hybrid and strong hybrid variants. This surge underlines the growing acceptance of hybrid technology among Indian buyers, especially in the midsize SUV segment where efficiency and features play a crucial role.

Other models in Toyota’s lineup presented a mixed bag of results. The Glanza hatchback registered 2,978 units, marking a 14 per cent year-on-year decline and a steep 54 per cent drop compared to December. The recently introduced Taisor compact SUV contributed 2,521 units, showing modest 2 per cent growth year-on-year but a significant 43 per cent month-on-month fall. On the brighter side, the Rumion MPV delivered 2,829 units, reflecting a robust 46 per cent annual growth and a slight 4 per cent monthly increase. In the premium SUV category, the Fortuner recorded 3,046 units, down 3 per cent year-on-year but up 3 per cent from December. The Hilux pickup saw encouraging traction with 317 units, growing 33 per cent year-on-year and 37 per cent month-on-month. Meanwhile, niche luxury models like the Camry, Vellfire and LC300 contributed smaller volumes but reinforced Toyota’s premium appeal. Looking ahead, Toyota is preparing to introduce the Urban Cruiser Ebella in India soon, which is expected to further strengthen its hybrid-focused portfolio and widen its reach in the competitive SUV space.

Overall, Toyota’s January 2026 performance highlights the brand’s continued reliance on its MPVs and SUVs, with hybrid technology playing a key role in driving growth. While some models faced monthly declines after a strong December, the year-on-year gains and strong response to hybrid offerings signal a stable trajectory. With new launches like the Urban Cruiser Ebella on the horizon and steady demand for its core models, Toyota appears well-positioned to maintain its premium-focused growth strategy in the Indian market throughout 2026.
