India EV sales March 2026
The Indian electric passenger vehicle market had a strong showing in March 2026, and the numbers tell a story worth paying attention to. Total zero-emission PV volumes climbed to 24,716 units, up from 20,616 units in February, marking a healthy 19.9 per cent month-on-month jump. Spring seemed to bring buyers out in force, and several models made headlines for all the right reasons.

The Big Three Hold Court:

At the manufacturer level, the pecking order remained familiar, but the margins shifted in interesting ways.
Tata Motors retained its top position with 9,288 units, up from 7,982 in February, holding a commanding 37.6 per cent share. The brand’s broad portfolio continues to be its biggest strength, from the entry-level Tiago EV to the premium Harrier EV, there’s something for nearly every buyer.
Mahindra & Mahindra came in second with 6,832 units, though this was a slight dip from 7,168 units the previous month. The marginal decline didn’t hurt its standing much, the company retained a 27.6 per cent market share, driven largely by the strength of its XEV lineup.
JSW MG Motor India was arguably the most exciting story of the month. The brand leapt from 3,642 units in February to 5,623 units in March, a 54.4 per cent surge, lifting its market share to 22.8 per cent. The credit goes almost entirely to one model.

The Windsor Moment:
The MG Windsor EV’s rise to the top of the charts deserves its own mention. Selling 4,530 units in March against 2,599 in February, the Windsor posted a 74 per cent monthly jump to become the single best-selling electric vehicle in India for the month. That’s not a small feat in a market where Tata has dominated model-level rankings for years. The Windsor’s value positioning and cabin space appear to be resonating strongly with buyers looking beyond the usual suspects.

Standout Performers and Surprises:
A few models made particularly bold moves this month:
- Tata Punch EV was one of the biggest movers of the month, rocketing from 1,061 units to 2,871 units a staggering 171 per cent increase to finish third overall.
- Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara made an immediate splash in only its second month on sale, posting 2,254 units against 870 units in February, a 159 per cent rise. Maruti grabbed a 9.1 per cent market share on the back of a single model, a promising debut for a brand entering EVs relatively late.
- Mahindra BE6 continued its steady climb, rising 35 per cent to 1,495 units.
- Hyundai Creta Electric doubled its volumes from 278 to 600 units, a quiet but consistent recovery.
- Kia India, however, saw a steep 87.6 per cent decline, falling to just 81 units. A tough month with no clear explanation in the data, one to watch going forward.
