New Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun

The Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq are expected to receive updated versions that will go on sale in early 2026, and while these refreshed SUVs may not bring any major mechanical changes, they will focus mainly on improving looks, interior quality, and features to stay competitive in the crowded mid-size SUV segment, as both brands are working together on this update which has been spotted through recent test vehicles on Indian roads, clearly showing that the development is moving in a planned and coordinated way, and underneath the body, both cars will continue to be based on the well-known and heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform that has already earned a strong reputation for safety and solid build quality, meaning buyers can expect the same dependable structure as before, and when it comes to engines, there are no big surprises planned since the familiar 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine will continue to produce 115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque, while the more powerful 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine will keep delivering 150 PS and 250 Nm, offering a good balance of performance and efficiency, and these engines will be paired with the same gearbox options including a six-speed manual, a six-speed torque converter automatic, and a seven-speed DSG, although there is some talk in the industry that an eight-speed automatic might be tested for future use, even if it does not arrive immediately with the facelift, and where the updates will really be noticeable is in the design.

Volkswagen Taigun facelift is expected to get mild but fresh changes such as a slightly revised front grille, updated bumper design, and small tweaks to the headlamps, while the LED tail lamps with their familiar C-shaped lighting pattern are likely to stay the same, along with the overall shape of the SUV, and Volkswagen may also add new alloy wheel designs and introduce a few new exterior colours to make the Taigun feel more modern and appealing, while Skoda is expected to follow a similar approach with the Kushaq facelift by giving it lightly redesigned bumpers, a refreshed grille, and subtle updates to the headlamp units, without changing the overall silhouette that buyers already recognise, and inside the cabin, both SUVs are expected to see more meaningful improvements, as Volkswagen is likely to rework the dashboard design, improve the quality of materials used, and introduce Level 2 ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and rear cross traffic alert, which will make the Taigun safer and more tech-focused, while Skoda seems to be aiming to make the Kushaq feel more premium by adding new seat upholstery, a redesigned centre console, a larger touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity, ventilated front seats for added comfort, a 360-degree camera for easier parking, wireless charging, and six airbags as standard across all variants, which will be a big plus for safety-conscious buyers, and once these updated versions are launched, the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq will continue to compete with popular rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda Elevate, while also getting ready to face upcoming models such as the new Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton, making the segment even more competitive, and at the same time, Volkswagen and Skoda are also planning facelifts for the Virtus and Slavia in 2026, showing that both brands are serious about refreshing their entire lineup to meet changing customer expectations and keep their cars relevant in the Indian market.
