BMW i7 sold hard: BMW i7 Rewrites the Rules of Electric Luxury in India

BMW i7 sold hard

BMW has quietly but confidently crossed a major milestone in India, and it says a lot about where the luxury EV market is headed. The brand has delivered 1,000 units of the BMW i7 since the electric flagship sedan was launched in the country, making it BMW India’s most successful high-end electric vehicle so far. In a segment where numbers usually move slowly, this achievement underlines just how strongly the i7 has connected with buyers who want cutting-edge technology wrapped in uncompromised luxury.

From the outside, the BMW i7 doesn’t try to blend in—and that’s exactly the point. Its bold proportions and futuristic styling clearly set it apart from traditional luxury sedans. The split headlamp design gives it a dramatic face, with slim daytime running lights placed high up, instantly catching attention. Adding to the visual drama are the Swarovski-crafted BMW Crystal Headlights, which sparkle with precision and detail. The illuminated Iconic Glow kidney grille further elevates its presence, especially at night, making the i7 look every bit like a flagship meant to be seen.

Step inside, and the BMW i7 shifts focus from drama to digital elegance. The cabin feels more like a modern lounge than a conventional car interior. At the centre of the experience is the BMW Interaction Bar, a sleek lighting-and-control strip that blends functionality with ambience. The curved display combines the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system into one seamless unit, offering navigation, real-time traffic updates and augmented view assistance in a clean, intuitive layout.

However, the true magic of the i7 lies in the rear seat experience. BMW has clearly designed this sedan with chauffeured luxury in mind. Rear occupants are treated to a 31-inch 8K BMW Theatre Screen with Amazon Fire TV, a segment-first feature that transforms the back seat into a private cinema. Paired with the Executive Lounge Seating behind the front passenger seat, occupants can recline up to 42.5 degrees, stretching out in pure comfort. Merino leather upholstery, massage functions and seat ventilation complete an experience that rivals first-class airline travel.

The sense of luxury is further enhanced by the Panorama Glass Roof Sky Lounge. With fully customisable LED lighting, the roof changes the cabin mood at the touch of a button, making night drives especially special. It’s these small yet thoughtful details that elevate the BMW i7 from being just another luxury sedan to something far more experiential.

Under the elegant skin, the BMW i7 is just as impressive. The i7 eDrive50 uses BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive technology, featuring a highly integrated electric drive unit. The result is a powerful yet refined output of 449 hp and 650 Nm of torque, allowing the large sedan to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.5 seconds. Despite its size, the i7 feels effortless on the move, delivering smooth and silent performance that suits its luxury character.

Charging has also been well thought out. For daily use at home or the office, an 11 kW AC charger gets the job done, while an optional 22 kW setup can reduce charging time further. On the move, fast DC charging of up to 195 kW allows the battery to charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 34 minutes, making long-distance travel far more practical.

Range anxiety is hardly a concern here. The BMW i7 offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 603 km, an impressive figure for a car of this size and performance. In India, the i7 is available in two variants: the eDrive50 M Sport and the more powerful M70 xDrive, both powered by a large 101.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Speaking on the milestone, BMW India’s leadership described the i7 as a bold declaration of “Forwardism,” and the numbers seem to back that claim. The success of the i7 shows that Indian luxury buyers are ready to embrace electric mobility—provided it comes without compromise.
