EV Sales in India

As of September 2025, India’s electric vehicle market has grown at an exceptional pace, with several models leading the sales charts and reflecting a major shift in consumer preference toward cleaner and more efficient mobility. The Tata Nexon EV continues to dominate as the most sold electric car in the country, maintaining its strong presence thanks to its affordable pricing, practical range, and wide service network. Following closely is the Tata Punch EV, which has rapidly gained attention among urban buyers for its compact size and modern design suited for city driving. MG’s Comet EV and ZS EV have also performed well, attracting tech-savvy and premium buyers looking for futuristic features and international styling. The Mahindra XUV400, despite a slower start, has steadily grown in numbers due to improved availability and recent software updates that have enhanced performance and range. Meanwhile, Hyundai’s Kona EV and the recently introduced Creta EV have added competition to the mid-size electric SUV space. In the two-wheeler segment, Ola Electric leads the pack with its S1 series, followed by TVS iQube and Ather 450X, each offering reliable range and strong after-sales support. The overall EV adoption has been fueled by expanding charging infrastructure, government subsidies under the FAME II policy, and growing environmental awareness among Indian consumers. By September 2025, EVs account for a larger share of total vehicle sales than ever before, with cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad becoming major hubs for electric mobility. This surge in demand indicates not just a passing trend but a fundamental transformation in the Indian automotive industry, showing that electric vehicles have firmly established themselves as the future of transportation in India, marking the beginning of a new era of sustainable, homegrown innovation.

EV competition:

In terms of everyday useability, ICE vehicles cannot compete EVs due to their perks of having a silent and eco friendly drive, and how simple it is to use them without lesser moving parts under the body. Whereas on the other hand EVs cannot match the easily accessible servicing of ICE vehicles at any give time in any part of the country. The ease of increase the range within 5 minutes by fueling up the car is something that the EV users do not experience. The competition here does not allow any of the segment to either stand out or overshadow one another. The upper edge with the ICE vehicles is that, the fuel is widely available in India and has been offer from years and years. The overall experience of using an ICE vehicle is a delight in itself, the engine grunt, the power that can be felt in the sound of the car is a treat for mototr heads.

With EVs, things tend to be interesting but in a different way. If we compare both the cars. EVs are more feature packed as compared to ICE vehicles. This is possible due to having lesser moving parts underneath the body that allows the manufacturers to add more interesting bits in the cars. The EVs are a delight for the type of audience that is more techy and is interested in the tech that a car can provide. And we can definitely see that these type of audience is growing day by day in India.\
