Facelifted Mercedes S-Class

Mercedes-Benz has pulled the wraps off the heavily updated S-Class, and it’s clear that the luxury sedan is not just refreshed but thoughtfully reinvented. More than half of the car’s components are either completely new or significantly reworked, showing Mercedes’ intent to keep the S-Class firmly at the top of the luxury ladder. From its commanding new look to a smarter, more connected cabin and refined electrified powertrains, the latest S-Class feels like a bold step into the future rather than a simple facelift.

The first thing you notice is the updated front design. The S-Class now wears a larger and more dominant radiator grille, instantly giving it a stronger road presence. For the first time, buyers can even opt for an illuminated grille, adding a subtle but unmistakable glow at night. Complementing this is the new Digital Light headlamp setup, which introduces a distinctive twin-star light signature. It’s a detail that makes the car instantly recognisable after dark and reinforces its flagship status.

Mercedes has kept the changes elegant rather than flashy. Revised bumpers, updated lighting graphics and fresh chrome accents add polish without disturbing the S-Class’ timeless appeal. It still looks dignified, but there’s now a sharper edge that helps it stand out among newer rivals.

Step inside, and the S-Class continues to feel like a luxury lounge on wheels. However, beneath the familiar plush materials lies a much more advanced digital core. The updated model debuts the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System, known as MB.OS. This system acts as the brain of the car, seamlessly linking infotainment, comfort features, safety systems and driving assistance into one cohesive ecosystem.

One of the biggest advantages of MB.OS is its ability to receive over-the-air updates. This means the S-Class can continue to evolve even after it has left the showroom, keeping features fresh and up to date. The latest version of the MBUX interface is also quicker and cleaner, with simpler menus and more natural voice commands that make daily use feel effortless rather than overwhelming.

For those who prefer to be driven, the optional First-Class rear seat package takes luxury to another level. The rear cabin transforms into a private executive space, complete with large individual screens, advanced seat functions, refined ambient lighting and enhanced climate controls. It’s designed to feel more like a high-end office or first-class airline suite than a car.

Comfort has been further improved with thoughtful additions such as heated seat belts, improved air filtration and smarter climate management that adapts more intuitively to passenger needs. Every small detail is designed to enhance the sense of calm and isolation that the S-Class is known for.

Under the bonnet, Mercedes has refined its electrified powertrains. Buyers can choose from updated six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, a powerful V8 and a plug-in hybrid, depending on the market. All engines feature mild-hybrid technology, delivering smoother acceleration, quieter operation and seamless start-stop functionality. The plug-in hybrid stands out with improved electric performance and smarter energy management, making it more usable in everyday driving.

Ride comfort, a core S-Class strength, has been pushed even further. Airmatic air suspension now comes as standard, while higher variants can be equipped with E-Active Body Control, which scans the road ahead and adjusts the suspension in real time. Rear-axle steering is also standard, making the large sedan surprisingly easy to manoeuvre at low speeds while boosting stability on highways.

Safety remains a top priority. The new S-Class features an enhanced restraint system with advanced Pre-Safe technologies and up to 15 airbags, offering protection for occupants in all seating positions. Driving assistance systems have also been upgraded with better sensors and faster processing, making them more accurate and reassuring.
