Tata Motors has officially expanded its SUV portfolio in India by launching petrol versions of the Harrier and Safari, giving buyers a new fuel option beyond diesel. The Tata Harrier petrol is offered as a 5-seater and is priced between Rs 12.89 lakh and Rs 24.69 lakh, while the Tata Safari petrol is available in both 6-seater and 7-seater layouts. The Safari petrol starts at Rs 13.29 lakh and goes up to Rs 25.10 lakh for the 7-seater version, whereas the 6-seater variants are priced from Rs 22.83 lakh to Rs 25.20 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi. Both SUVs are powered by Tata’s all-new 1.5-litre Hyperion Turbo-GDi petrol engine, which is claimed to offer the best fuel efficiency in its segment. The Harrier petrol is available in eight variants, starting from Smart and going up to Fearless Ultra Red #Dark, while the Safari petrol comes in a wider range of 10 trims, including options like Accomplished Ultra, Accomplished Ultra Red #Dark, and 6-seater versions marked with the 6S badge. This wide variant spread allows Tata to cater to a broad range of buyers, from those looking for an entry-level petrol SUV to customers wanting a fully loaded premium model.

In terms of pricing and variants, Tata has carefully positioned the Safari petrol to match different buyer preferences, offering both manual and automatic gearbox options across most trims. Entry-level versions like the Smart trim are available only with a manual gearbox, while higher trims such as Pure X, Adventure X Plus, and Accomplished variants get both manual and automatic options, along with special #Dark editions. The top-end Accomplished Ultra and Accomplished Ultra Red #Dark variants push the price beyond Rs 25 lakh for the automatic versions. Despite the introduction of a new petrol engine, both the Harrier and Safari remain visually unchanged compared to their diesel versions. The Harrier petrol gets a fresh Premium Nitro Crimson exterior color and a new dual-tone interior theme finished in Oyster White and Titan Brown, which gives the cabin a lighter and more premium feel. The Safari petrol stands out with features like large 19-inch alloy wheels, signature LED daytime running lights, and a stylish cabin finished in Carnelian Red and Black upholstery, adding to its premium appeal and family-friendly character.

Feature-wise, the petrol-powered Harrier and Safari continue to offer the same equipment seen on their diesel counterparts, ensuring no compromise for buyers choosing petrol. These include comfort-focused features such as Boss Mode for extra rear-seat legroom, powered and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and a large panoramic sunroof. Safety remains a strong point, as both SUVs have achieved a full 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP for all variants powered by the Hyperion petrol engine, reinforcing Tata’s reputation for building safe vehicles. Under the hood, the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 168 bhp and 280 Nm of torque in both SUVs, which is noticeably higher than the output of the same engine in the Sierra. Power is sent to the wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, while buyers can also choose a smooth Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic. With this launch, the Tata Harrier petrol now directly takes on rivals like the MG Hector, offering buyers a strong mix of performance, safety, features, and multiple seating options in the competitive mid-size SUV segment.
