Top 10 Hatchbacks Sold in India December 2025:

Hatchback sales in December 2025 clearly showed that most of the demand was concentrated at the top, with just a few models taking up a major share of the total segment, while the rest followed at a much lower volume, and although some cars saw strong growth, others struggled to maintain their numbers compared to last year. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno emerged as the best-selling hatchback of the month with 22,108 units sold, which is a huge jump from the 9,112 units it managed in December 2024, marking a massive 143 per cent growth. This made it the biggest gainer in both volume and percentage terms, as it added nearly 13,000 more units than last year. Close behind was the Maruti Suzuki Swift, which secured the second position with 18,767 units, up from 10,421 units in the same month last year. This increase of over 8,300 units translated into an 80 per cent growth, making it the second-highest volume gainer among all hatchbacks. In third place was the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, which sold 14,575 units, but unlike the top two, it saw a decline from the 17,303 units it sold in December 2024, resulting in a 16 per cent drop and making it the biggest loser in terms of absolute volume, with nearly 2,700 fewer units sold year-on-year.

Further down the list, the Maruti Suzuki Alto continued to show signs of recovery in the entry-level segment by recording 10,829 units, compared to 7,410 units last year, which means it grew by 46 per cent and added more than 3,400 units. This suggests that demand for affordable and simple cars is slowly picking up again. The Toyota Glanza also delivered an impressive performance by selling 6,451 units, almost doubling its sales from 3,487 units in December 2024, resulting in an 85 per cent growth, which places it among the fastest-growing premium hatchbacks in the market. Meanwhile, Tata’s Tiago posted 5,826 units, up from 5,006 units last year, showing a modest but positive growth of 16 per cent. On the other hand, Hyundai’s Grand i10 Nios saw a drop, selling 4,010 units compared to 4,489 units last year, which means it declined by 11 per cent. The Hyundai i20 also experienced a slight dip, with 3,339 units sold, marginally lower than the 3,453 units it recorded in December 2024, marking a 3 per cent decrease.

The Tata Altroz managed to improve its numbers significantly, selling 2,871 units compared to 1,866 units last year, which resulted in a healthy 54 per cent growth and showed that the model is slowly gaining traction again. At the bottom of the top ten list was the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, which surprisingly turned out to be the fastest-growing model in percentage terms, as it sold 1,910 units compared to just 749 units in December 2024, registering a massive 155 per cent increase. Overall, the hatchback segment in December 2025 presented a mixed picture, where a few models dominated the market with very strong growth, while some popular nameplates struggled to hold onto their earlier volumes. The sharp rise of models like the Baleno, Swift, Alto, Glanza, and Altroz shows that buyers are still interested in hatchbacks, especially when they offer a balance of price, features, and fuel efficiency. However, the decline seen in models like the Wagon R, Grand i10 Nios, and i20 indicates that competition is getting tougher, and buyers are becoming more selective. This uneven growth pattern highlights how the hatchback market is slowly changing, with stronger models pulling ahead while others need updates or better value to regain lost ground.
