Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV

The upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV is set to mark an important step for Toyota in India’s growing electric vehicle space as the midsize electric SUV, positioned below the larger bZ4X, has already gone on sale in Indonesia at an on-road Jakarta price of IDR 759 million which roughly translates to around Rs. 40.78 lakh, and while the Indonesia-spec model is brought in as a completely built unit, the version planned for India will be produced locally, making it more competitive when it arrives sometime next year, and once launched it will become Toyota’s first fully electric vehicle for the Indian market after being showcased earlier at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in Delhi, giving buyers an early look at Toyota’s EV design and technology direction, and the Urban Cruiser BEV made its global debut in Brussels and is expected to come with two battery pack options including a 49 kWh unit and a larger 61.1 kWh unit as seen in several international markets, both of which will be paired with an electric motor producing 172 horsepower and 192 Nm of torque, delivering smooth and silent performance suitable for both city driving and highway use, and like its bigger sibling the bZ4X, the Urban Cruiser BEV will feature Toyota’s T Intouch connected technology suite that allows users to remotely check important vehicle information, monitor battery status, view driving data and interact with the car through a smartphone app, adding convenience and a modern ownership experience, and under the skin the electric SUV will share the Heartect e platform which is also used by the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, meaning both models will have many shared components, systems and technologies as part of the strong Toyota–Suzuki partnership, and both vehicles will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat facility, continuing the alliance-led strategy that helps reduce costs and speed up development, while the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is expected to go on sale next month, Toyota is likely to introduce the Urban Cruiser BEV in Indian showrooms in the first half of 2026, and once launched it will enter the fast-growing midsize electric SUV segment where factors like pricing, driving range and features will play a major role in attracting buyers, and it will compete against strong rivals such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Harrier EV, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra XEV 9e, Mahindra BE 6 and MG ZS EV, making this a highly competitive space, and in terms of size the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV measures 4,285 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width and 1,640 mm in height, along with a long 2,700 mm wheelbase that should translate into a spacious cabin and good rear seat comfort, and when it comes to features the equipment list is expected to be quite generous as the electric SUV will likely offer a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a fully digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof for an airy cabin feel, six airbags for safety, a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, front ventilated seats for added comfort in hot weather, automatic climate control, and a Level 2 ADAS suite that brings advanced driver assistance features to improve safety and reduce driver fatigue, making the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV a well-rounded electric SUV that combines modern design, practical dimensions, strong technology, multiple battery options and a feature-rich cabin to appeal to Indian buyers looking to shift to electric mobility in the coming years.
