Upcoming luxury cars from BMW:
BMW had a strong year in India, selling 17,271 cars, which is 2,259 more than the previous year, marking a solid growth of 15 percent. Riding on this positive momentum, the German luxury carmaker is preparing for an aggressive product rollout in 2026. According to Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, the company will launch ten new models this year. Out of these, six will be completely new additions that are not currently available in the Indian lineup, while the remaining four will be updated facelift versions of existing cars. Although BMW has not officially revealed the names of all the upcoming models, some key launches are already being discussed. One of the first is expected to be the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase, which could arrive between April and June. BMW has noticed that Indian buyers prefer spacious luxury cars, especially those with longer wheelbases, and this trend is clearly reflected in its sales numbers. In 2024, long wheelbase models made up 29 percent of total sales, but that figure jumped to 50 percent last year. Out of the 17,271 cars sold, 8,608 were long wheelbase versions, showing how important this category has become for the brand in India.
The upcoming i5 Long Wheelbase will feature a wheelbase that is 110 mm longer than the standard version, which should translate into more rear-seat comfort. It is also expected to get changes to its suspension setup, possibly improving ground clearance to better suit Indian road conditions. While the regular i5 kits are imported from Germany, the long wheelbase version is likely to be sourced from China, which could help BMW manage costs. Another important launch expected in the second quarter is the facelifted BMW iX. This updated version will come with a sharper exterior design, better performance, more driving range, and faster charging capabilities. Apart from electric cars, BMW is also bringing back some of its popular performance models. The BMW X6 is expected to return to India around April, most likely in the M60i xDrive mild-hybrid version. This model uses a powerful 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine producing 523 hp and 750 Nm of torque, along with a small electric motor that adds extra assistance. The combined setup allows the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds, which is extremely quick for a vehicle of its size. It will also have all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, ensuring both performance and stability.

BMW is also planning to introduce a more lifestyle-focused car in the form of the BMW 4 Series Convertible. This model will compete with cars like the Mercedes CLE and will be offered in the M440i xDrive mild-hybrid version. One of its main highlights is its soft-top roof, which can open or close in just 18 seconds, even while driving at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Under the hood, it will have a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 386 hp and 540 Nm of torque, supported by a small electric motor. This combination allows the car to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, making it both stylish and fast. Along with launching new models, BMW is also working on increasing localisation in India to keep its prices competitive. At present, around 50 percent of its parts are locally sourced, including important components like engines, seats, axles, and tyres. By expanding localisation further, BMW hopes to reduce costs and make its cars more accessible to Indian buyers. With a packed launch calendar, growing demand for long wheelbase models, and a stronger focus on electric vehicles and performance cars, BMW appears well-prepared to strengthen its position in the Indian luxury car market this year.
