VW Tayron launching in India:

Volkswagen has officially confirmed that it will launch a brand-new premium SUV for the Indian market, called the Tayron R-Line, in the first quarter of 2026. This upcoming model will be positioned above the Tiguan R-Line and will become the brand’s most expensive and luxurious SUV offering in India. Designed to compete in the growing three-row SUV segment, the Tayron will be offered only in a seven-seat layout, making it more practical for large families and long-distance travel. Internationally, the Tayron was first unveiled in late 2024 and is basically the three-row version of the latest Tiguan. In several global markets, it has already replaced the Tiguan Allspace, and for India, it will serve as a more premium, spacious, and refined alternative to the regular Tiguan. Volkswagen aims to attract buyers who want a comfortable, feature-rich, and stylish SUV with strong road presence. With its R-Line trim, the Tayron will also carry sporty design elements, making it visually appealing for customers who prefer a dynamic look along with luxury. By placing it at the top of its SUV lineup, Volkswagen is clearly targeting the upmarket segment, hoping to compete with other premium three-row SUVs available in India.
One of the most impressive aspects of the Tayron is its size and interior space. The SUV measures 4,770 mm in length, which makes it much longer than the standard Tiguan sold in Europe and only slightly shorter than Volkswagen’s flagship Touareg. Its long wheelbase of 2,791 mm ensures that passengers in the second and third rows get better legroom and overall comfort. This extra length also translates into a more practical boot. With all three rows in use, the Tayron can still carry 345 litres of luggage, which is quite useful for everyday needs. When the third row is folded down, this space expands to 885 litres, making it ideal for long road trips or airport runs. In terms of design, the Tayron follows Volkswagen’s latest SUV styling language and looks similar to the China-spec Tayron L. At the front, it gets sleek LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights, a bold and wide grille, and a muscular bonnet. The sides feature large alloy wheels that add to its premium feel, while the rear gets slim LED tail lamps connected by a full-width light bar, giving it a modern and upscale appearance. The R-Line version further enhances the look with sportier bumpers, unique trims, and sharper details that make it stand out on the road.

Inside, the Tayron R-Line is expected to offer a high level of comfort, technology, and convenience. International models come with a large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster, giving the cabin a modern and tech-focused feel. The feature list is quite impressive and includes three-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. Safety will also be a major highlight, as the Tayron is expected to come with a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems, offering features like adaptive cruise control, lane assist, and automatic emergency braking. Under the hood, the SUV is likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine that produces 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque. This engine will be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, ensuring smooth and quick gear shifts. Some variants may also get Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, which will improve traction and stability on rough or slippery roads. For India, the Tayron R-Line will be brought in as a CKD unit and assembled locally at Volkswagen’s plant in Maharashtra. This approach may help keep prices slightly more competitive while maintaining premium quality. Overall, the Tayron R-Line is shaping up to be a strong and stylish new option in the premium three-row SUV space.
