India’s scooter market opened the year on an emphatic note, with both petrol-powered favourites and fast-rising electric models posting impressive gains. At the very top, the Honda Activa once again demonstrated why it remains the default family scooter across the country. With 2,71,924 units dispatched in January 2026, it recorded a massive 63 per cent year-on-year jump, underlining Honda’s continued grip on the segment. Close behind, the TVS Jupiter maintained its stronghold in second place, registering 1,29,744 units and a healthy 20 per cent growth compared to the same month last year.
The mid-table battle was equally dynamic. The Suzuki Access held third position with 69,042 units, reflecting a steady 26 per cent improvement. Electric mobility continued to gather momentum, highlighted by the TVS iQube, which surged 50 per cent year-on-year to 37,560 units. Not far behind, the youthful and sporty TVS Ntorq posted 36,596 units, marking a sharp 54 per cent rise. The data clearly shows that buyers are not only sticking with established petrol nameplates but are also warming up quickly to credible EV alternatives.

The biggest percentage growth came from the Hero Destini 125, which nearly doubled its volumes with a striking 97 per cent surge. In contrast, the Suzuki Burgman Street was the only model in the top ten to see a dip, slipping 8 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, electric offerings like the Ather Rizta and the Yamaha RayZR continued to strengthen their presence with 68 per cent and 30 per cent growth respectively. With legacy petrol scooters holding firm and EVs accelerating rapidly, 2026 is shaping up to be a fiercely competitive year for the scooter space.
