Kia EV sales September 2026 reached 1,263 units, up 48% from 851 in August, and that jump was enough to push Kia past Maruti Suzuki into fifth place in India’s EV table. For a brand that only recently got serious about electric cars here, it is a meaningful step.

The EV numbers below are retail registrations from Autocar Professional. The overall Kia figures further down are dispatches reported by Autocar India, so we label each one as we go.

Kia EV Sales September 2026 vs August: The Numbers

Kia moved from 851 EV units in August to 1,263 in September, a gain of 412 units. Autocar Professional attributes the surge largely to the Syros EV, which launched on 23 July 2026 and has been ramping up deliveries since. It credits that launch with a 111% year-on-year rise in Kia’s EV sales.

Momentum had been visible earlier in the month too. Kia’s EV retail deliveries, Syros EV and Carens Clavis EV combined, stood at 433 units in the first 15 days of September, so the second half of the month was the stronger one.

How Kia Overtook Maruti Suzuki in EVs

Maruti Suzuki went the other way. Its EV retail fell 25% from 1,472 units in August to 1,103 in September, which handed Kia the fifth spot. The gap is small, 160 units, so the order could flip again, but the direction of travel favours Kia for now.

Above them, the picture is stable. Tata leads by a distance, Mahindra is second with 7,779 units, JSW MG Motor is third with 5,242, and VinFast sits fourth after growing 32% to 2,963 units. Kia is still a small player in absolute terms, with a 1,263-unit month against a 35,995-unit market, but it is no longer at the bottom of the mainstream pack.

The Syros EV Effect

The Syros EV also set a delivery record earlier in the cycle. Kia dealer Incheon Kia handed over 150 Syros EVs in a single day in Kochi, a feat recorded in the India Book of Records. Handover events like that tell you the order book was healthy enough to deliver in bulk, not just trickle out cars.

The Syros nameplate is helping the petrol model as well. Combined Syros ICE and EV wholesales reached 1,742 units in August, the best month of FY2027 so far, and up 34% on the previous month.

Kia’s Overall Sales Also Grew

Kia posted the fastest month-on-month domestic growth among the major carmakers in September. Autocar Professional reports record domestic wholesales of 32,017 units against 29,042 in August, a rise of 10.24%, and a 41% jump over September 2025.

The driver there was not EVs alone. Autocar India points to new CNG variants and the Sorento launch as key contributors. On a retail basis, Rushlane puts Kia at 26,663 units for the month, well above the 18,274 it sold in September 2025.

What This Means for EV Buyers

If you are shopping for a compact electric SUV, Kia now deserves a place on the shortlist beside the usual Tata and Mahindra names. Rising volumes also tend to improve service readiness, but ask your dealer about charger-installation support and delivery timelines before booking.

Keep expectations realistic as well. A 48% monthly rise from a small base is not the same as a 48% rise in a large one, and Kia’s EV volume is still a fraction of Tata’s.

Final Verdict

Kia EV sales September 2026 are the best evidence yet that the Syros EV is working. The brand gained 412 units in a month, overtook Maruti Suzuki and grew its overall sales by double digits. The test now is whether it can hold fifth place through the festive season, when every rival will push harder.
