Volkswagen Taigun Discount: ₹3.5 Lakh on Old Stock vs Under ₹1 Lakh on the New One

The Volkswagen Taigun discount tells you everything about how carmakers clear old stock. According to Autocar India, MY2025 Taigun stock carried benefits of up to ₹3.5 lakh in September, while the updated car got a fraction of that.

A note on timing before we start: the last fully documented scheme we could verify is September 2026. October festive schemes usually follow a similar pattern, but we could not confirm October figures from VW, so use this as a guide and verify with your dealer. The comparison itself is the useful part.

The two Taigun discounts side by side

Autocar’s September breakdown for the outgoing MY2025 Taigun is cash of up to ₹2 lakh, plus ₹1 lakh of liquidation support, plus a ₹30,000 exchange bonus or ₹20,000 scrappage benefit, plus a ₹20,000 loyalty benefit. With the exchange bonus, that adds up to ₹3.5 lakh.

The updated Taigun gets cash of ₹20,000-25,000 depending on the variant, with the same exchange or scrappage and loyalty items. Taking the best case, ₹25,000 plus ₹30,000 plus ₹20,000, comes to ₹75,000.

The gap is ₹2.75 lakh. That is what you pay, in effect, for the newer model year and the refresh.

One caution: 91wheels lists MY2026 Taigun stock with ₹1 lakh cash plus exchange and loyalty, which is higher than Autocar’s figure for the updated car. Trackers differ on what counts as the updated car, so ask which stock you are being offered.

Another way to read the table: if you take no trade-in, the MY2025 car still carries ₹2 lakh cash plus ₹1 lakh liquidation support, a ₹3 lakh base before any exchange or loyalty money. The updated car has no comparable base. For a buyer paying from savings, the old stock is the only route to a discount of this size.

Why liquidation support matters

Liquidation support is money to help dealers clear old inventory. It exists because a car built in 2025 starts losing value on paper the day the new model year begins, and dealers are the ones holding it.

That ₹1 lakh line is not a gift to buyers. It is a signal that the dealer wants that specific car gone. Use it. A dealer holding a MY2025 Taigun in October has strong reasons to bargain further.

We have written before on why the Taigun keeps selling despite its age, in our piece on why the Volkswagen Taigun is popular in India. Discounts like this are part of that story.

What the discount costs you later

Here is the catch. A MY2025 car registered in late 2026 is already a year older on paper than a MY2026 car, and resale buyers and used car platforms price by model year. The ₹2.75 lakh you save upfront can partly come back as lower resale in three to five years.

No one can state the exact resale gap. It depends on the market, the condition and the buyer, so we will not invent a percentage. But if you keep a car for ten years, the resale penalty hardly matters. If you change cars every three years, it matters a lot.

The updated car is the one our comparison of the Taigun facelift against the Kushaq describes. If you want the newer styling and features, be honest about whether ₹2.75 lakh is worth it to you.

A practical test is to ask the dealer for both quotes side by side, on-road, on the same variant. Subtract one from the other and divide by the years you plan to own the car. If you keep it five years, the extra cost of the newer car works out to about ₹55,000 a year on the September figures, which is a useful way to judge whether the refresh is worth it to you.

The Virtus and Tiguan follow the same script

Autocar reports the Virtus at up to ₹1.55 lakh on MY2025 stock, and 91wheels shows ₹1.30 lakh as the best for MY2026. The Tiguan R-Line is listed at up to ₹6 lakh, made of ₹3.5 lakh cash, ₹2 lakh exchange and ₹50,000 loyalty.

The pattern is the same everywhere in the VW range: older stock carries bigger numbers, and exchange money is a large part of the total. Where cash discount is the main line, as on the MY2025 Taigun, the offer is stronger because it is available to buyers without a trade-in.

Our look at the Volkswagen Virtus in 2026 covers why the sedan remains a sensible choice, and why a ₹1.55 lakh offer is also worth a visit to the showroom.

The lesson from the Tiguan is a warning, not just a bargain. A ₹6 lakh headline on a premium SUV is attractive, but the exchange portion is a large part of it, and the cash portion is ₹3.5 lakh. Do not let a big total distract you from checking the line items.

How to buy smart

Ask for the build month and model year in writing before you negotiate. Ask which of the offer lines are cash and which need an exchange. Then ask for the on-road price with insurance, because some dealers push insurance and accessories to claw back the discount.

Finally, remember that Autocar states that discounts vary from city to city and depend on stock availability. A ₹3.5 lakh figure is a ceiling for one car in one showroom, and many buyers will be offered less.

Lastly, do not accept a quick yes. Festive weeks are busy and dealers know buyers feel the clock. A second dealer in the same city may hold older stock and offer a better number, and a polite message asking for a written quote costs you nothing.

Final Verdict

The Volkswagen Taigun discount is a lesson in model-year economics. Old MY2025 stock carries up to ₹3.5 lakh in September’s documented scheme, while the updated car carries as little as ₹75,000 at best. That ₹2.75 lakh gap is the price of newness.

Our call: buy the old stock if you hold cars long and want the saving, and buy the updated car if you resell early or want the new features. Every figure here is from September trackers, not an official VW scheme for October, and dealer-level offers vary by city and stock, so confirm before booking.
