Maruti Brezza Bharat NCAP Rating: 5 Stars, but 6 of the 7.59 Lost Points Tell a Story

The Maruti Brezza Bharat NCAP rating is five stars for both adult and child occupant protection, a big step up from the 2018 car that managed only four stars for adults and two for children. The facelift scored 30.41 out of 32 for adults and 43 out of 49 for children.

Most coverage stopped at the star count. We went through the sub-scores, because they show exactly where the Brezza is strong and the one area where it is holding back.

The scorecard in full

According to Autocar India, the tested car was the ZXI+ 1.5-litre 6-speed automatic, and the result applies to all variants. It was tested on 23 July 2026. The adult score splits into 14.41 out of 16 in the frontal offset test and a full 16 out of 16 in the side movable barrier test.

The child score of 43 out of 49 breaks down as 24 out of 24 for dynamic performance, 12 out of 12 for child restraint system installation, and 7 out of 13 for vehicle assessment. Add the two headline numbers and the Brezza totals 73.41 out of a possible 81.

Where the missing points went

Here is the number that matters. The Brezza dropped 7.59 points in total. Of those, 1.59 came from the frontal offset test and 6 came from the vehicle assessment portion of the child score. That means about 79 percent of the lost points sit in one category, which is a checklist-style assessment of child-safety fitments rather than a crash dummy reading.

Put differently, if Maruti wanted to chase the last few points, the likelier route is not stronger steel but better child-safety fitments and documentation, which is mostly a software, labelling and equipment matter. That is a far easier fix than re-engineering a body shell, and it is the sort of update a mid-cycle refresh can deliver.

In other words, the structure and restraints are close to flawless on the crash side. Side impact was perfect, dynamic child protection was perfect, and child seat fitment was perfect. The weakest link is in the vehicle assessment and not in how the shell protects people.

Brezza versus Seltos, point by point

The Kia Seltos scored 31.70 adult and 45 child points when Rushlane reported its result, with 9 out of 13 in vehicle assessment. That gives the Seltos 76.70 out of 81 against the Brezza’s 73.41, a gap of 3.29 points.

Why does that matter to a buyer? Because the headline star count hides the margin. A car at 73.41 and a car at 76.70 both show five stars, yet the second has more headroom if the testing rules tighten. Reading sub-scores is how you separate a comfortable five-star car from a borderline one, and the Brezza is comfortably inside the line on both counts.

Break the gap down and it is 1.29 points from the adult score and 2 points from the child vehicle assessment. So the Brezza trails a larger, pricier SUV by roughly four percent of the total. That is a small margin, and both are five-star cars. We covered the cheaper end of the safety spectrum in our Kia Sonet 1-star NCAP piece, which shows how far apart the best and worst in this segment can be.

What the Brezza carries as standard

Autocar India lists six airbags, electronic stability control, seat belt reminders on all seats, front pretensioners and ISOFIX anchorages on rear outer seats on the tested car. CarDekho’s launch report adds that the facelift, launched on 11 August 2026 with prices starting at ₹7.40 Lakh ex-showroom, gains Level 1 driver-assistance features: blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, emergency stop signal and safe exit warning.

Note what that list is. These are useful assists, not a full ADAS package with autonomous emergency braking, which we have not seen listed for the Brezza in the reports we reviewed. If you want to know how much the distinction will matter, read our explainer on the coming Maruti safety upgrades. Curtain airbags and ESC are already here, which is exactly what stricter rules will demand next.

Does the rating change the buying case?

For a compact SUV that has long been a family favourite, a five-star badge removes the main objection that dogged the earlier Vitara Brezza. We looked at the car’s wider case in our Brezza facelift versus Nexon analysis.

The jump from the old car also needs context. The 2018 result of four stars for adults and two for children came from Global NCAP under a different protocol, so the two tests are not directly comparable. What we can say is that Maruti has clearly moved its priorities, and the Brezza now sits alongside the Victoris, e Vitara and Invicto as a five-star Maruti, according to Autopunditz.

There is a caveat. A rating applies to the tested protocol on the day of the test. Bharat NCAP is moving to a tougher 100-point framework from October 2027, so this result will not carry over automatically. Treat the Brezza’s five stars as a strong 2026 baseline, not a lifetime guarantee.

Final Verdict

The Maruti Brezza Bharat NCAP rating is a genuine achievement, not a marketing badge. Adult protection is near perfect, side impact is full marks, and the six airbags plus ESC are standard across the range, which makes the five stars relevant to every buyer and not just the top trim.

Our one criticism is the vehicle assessment score, where 6 of the 7.59 lost points disappeared. That is the first place Maruti should improve, and likely the easiest place to gain points in the next update.
